Your tax-deductible donations will help further develop promising therapies for recovery from spinal cord injury.

Moreover, many people do not realize that paralysis is only the tip of the iceberg. The loss of bladder, respiratory and other bodily functions also are common. The average annual cost of care for an individual with a spinal cord injury ranges from $40,589-$171,808 (National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center (NSCISC)). By developing successful recovery therapies for those who already have spinal cord injury (1.3 million in the US, to date) and preventing new injuries, the US could save as much as $400 billion on future direct and indirect lifetime costs alone.

While the science of recovery from paralysis is proving hopeful, the cost of taking potential therapies through the rigorous and necessary clinical trials and gaining approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is very costly. Yet, the good news is that significant recovery gains from damage to the spinal cord are within reach!
